Lesson learned.

Hey there Reader,

With all the craziness that went into our first-ever launch of Showit Shortcuts, I almost forgot to celebrate the fact that Seedling Studio turned TWO!

If my business were a baby, it would be walking, talking, and tearing up my office right now. Proud mom moment. 🥲

So, I thought it would be cute and on-theme to share two big lessons I've learned from these last two years serving a spectrum of service providers, creatives, and organizations with high-converting website design & dev.

I know some of you are waaaay ahead of me on your business journey (your business might be an angsty teen by now, to keep the baby analogy going). Many of you are running shoulder-to-shoulder with me, trying to make it through the (not-so) terrible two's. And some are still prepping to bring your little miracles into the world.

Ok, baby analogy over.

Regardless of how long you've been in business, my hope is that something from my experience can serve you in some small way.

I'm a big believer in learning from other entrepreneurs and business owners, so I don't have to constantly reinvent the wheel and learn lessons the hard way.

And that's actually the first and most valuable thing I've learned from my two years in business – to invest in learning from others.

If there's one thing that's helped make my business successful, it's the guidance and direction I've received from others who have achieved results similar to the ones I'm seeking. For example, last year I invested in Marie Forleo's B-School – a course I'd been eyeing since my business was just a whisper of a thought – and it helped me in more ways than I can describe! (Not in any way sponsored, BTW.)

I'm always going to prioritize investing in courses and education so I can continuously become better at what I do. A shorter learning curve? You bet I'm willing to pay for that.

(Do you offer courses & educational resources in your business? If so, hit 'reply' and send me a link! I'd love to see what you're all about! 😊)

The second lesson?

Get comfy with the ebbs and flows.

Our brains expect the path to success to look like that perfect "y=mx+b" diagonal line from stats class. But that's just not realistic (at least not in my experience)!

My graph looks more like Jeremy Bearimy from The Good Place.

The sooner we can get comfortable on our own path, no matter how long and difficult it may seem, the easier time we'll have with this whole entrepreneurship thing.

Those are just my (literal) two cents! Thank you for being part of the reason why I love my job. I'm so grateful to have you along for the ride with me, Reader, and I'm cheering you along on yours!

With gratitude,

TL;DR – Learn from others, and expect your path to resemble Jeremy Bearimy!

Hi , As both a website designer and developer, I talk a lot about what it takes to create a website that’s both beautiful and functional. Websites aren’t just meant to be pretty online spaces – they can and should be your business’s most effective sales tool! To make that happen, we can’t just be throwing website pages together willy-nilly. In fact, some of the most important work that goes into creating a website happens before we ever start talking about color palettes, content, and website...

Hey there Reader, The other day, I was reviewing my LinkedIn profile (as one does when trying to embody *PEAK* professionalism as a solopreneur), and I decided to scroll allll the way back in time to my first job... Back to the good old days when I was collecting cash in the In N' Out drive-thru. And as I reminisced, letting the burger-scented waves of nostalgia wash over me, something caught my attention on my computer screen. "2 yrs 4 mos" The amount of time I was employed at In N' Out....

Hi there, Reader! The end of the year can be pretty hectic – how are you holding up? If it feels like you’re just trying to hang on until Christmas, I’m right there with you. Between clients trying to squeeze into your calendar before the end of the year, hustling to check off your 2022 goals, and solidifying your plans for growth in 2023, it can be tough to slow down and sink into the spirit of the season. ☝️ Let’s try to steal some of that Buddy the Elf energy, ok?! As you may or may not be...
